Kennedy Brothers Real Estate owns and manages five housing communities in Toledo metropolitan area. These communities provide low-income families, persons with disabilities and elderly citizens with federal rental assistance through a contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) called the Project-Based Section 8 Program.

The program is referred to as “Section 8” because the federal law that created it is Section 8 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. Under this program the property owner receives two payments for each tenant’s rent – one from the tenant, which is about 30% of his or her GROSS income; and a second from the Federal Government for the remaining balance. Utilities are covered through rent for all units.
